When 100% of transportation is outsourced to more than 30 carriers, the challenge goes far beyond securing vehicles. The business needs to control orders, transport plans, delivery progress, carrier execution and potential delays across the entire network. With Smartlog Transportation Management (STM), our customer moved toward a centralized transportation environment that gives Logistics teams greater visibility from delivery request creation through successful delivery to distributors, dealers and end customers.
ABOUT OUR CUSTOMER
Our customer is an electronics company in Vietnam and a member of a Japanese technology group founded in 1918, with more than a century of development and innovation.
Over more than 100 years, the group has expanded globally across a broad range of technology, electronics and lifestyle-related businesses. In Vietnam, the company offers a diverse portfolio including refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, air purifiers, fans, televisions, kitchen appliances and personal-care products.
The project focuses on distribution transportation to distributors, dealers and end customers. Transportation is 100% outsourced across more than 30 carriers, creating significant requirements for delivery visibility and coordinated control across a large external transport network.
OPERATING CONTEXT
Before STM, order information, transport plans and delivery status had to be consolidated from multiple sources and systems.
With more than 30 carriers participating in the network, Logistics teams had to continuously reconcile updates from different parties. Without centralized data, identifying shipments at risk of delay early enough to inform distributors, dealers or end customers was more difficult.
Teams also spent significant effort consolidating information, updating shipment status and preparing reports before transport data could support operational decisions.
KEY CHALLENGES
Controlling more than 30 carriers through one operating view
The company needed to understand not only where a shipment was, but also which carrier was responsible, what stage the order had reached and whether execution remained on schedule.
Detecting delivery risks before they became delays
Without timely transport-status updates, Logistics teams were more likely to react after an issue occurred rather than proactively managing exceptions.
Fragmented data slowed decision-making
Information had to be consolidated from different sources, increasing manual workload and limiting the timely use of transportation data.
SMARTLOG’S APPROACH
Smartlog implemented STM as a centralized distribution transportation platform, connecting orders, transport plans, carriers and delivery status within a common management flow.
Centralizing distribution transportation
Order information, transportation plans and delivery status are brought together in STM, reducing dependence on manual consolidation across separate sources.
Providing real-time delivery visibility
STM supports end-to-end delivery-status monitoring, from receiving delivery information through successful completion. This gives teams a stronger basis for identifying potential delays earlier and coordinating exception handling.
Strengthening carrier control
Bringing multiple carrier statuses into a common platform gives the business a more consolidated view of execution progress and carrier performance.
Supporting transport-option comparison
Multiple transportation options can be reviewed within the same environment, providing additional information for balancing operational requirements and transportation cost.
Connecting delivery execution with customer feedback
The process also supports communication and feedback through ZNS, with SMS as a fallback when ZNS cannot be delivered, bringing recipient interaction closer to the transportation workflow.
RESULTS
Following implementation, distribution transportation data is managed in a more centralized STM environment, enabling the business to monitor delivery status end to end in real time instead of relying on fragmented information sources.
Logistics teams gain a more consistent view across the network of more than 30 carriers and can use real-time STM reporting to support operational monitoring and decision-making.
The system also supports transport-option comparison within a common environment and connects customer feedback through ZNS/SMS more closely with delivery execution.
BUSINESS VALUE
In a 100% outsourced transportation model, management capability is not defined by how many vehicles a business owns. It depends on whether the company can control dozens of external carriers as one coordinated network.
Smartlog Warehouse Management System STM connects orders, transport plans, carriers, delivery progress, cost options and reporting within a centralized transportation environment.
This gives the business stronger network visibility, greater ability to respond to operational exceptions and a better data foundation for managing distribution transportation at scale.
