Interleaving

A good warehouse management system should maintain an on-going to-do list of required transactions based on event triggers. The system should assign efficient batches of multiple transaction of work to warehouse resources. The execution of multiple tasks in a single trip is commonly referred to as interleaving. An example of interleaving is combining a putaway and retrieval in nearby locations into a single trip.

Combining a cycle count of an empty location with picking from a nearby location is an example of interleaving.
